Captain Marvel

I didn’t quite know what to expect from this movie going in given all the online chatter and political discussions surrounding this film but, after leaving the cinema I can say I was overall impressed with the end result. You all know the drill by now with Marvel movies and once again they turn out a very entertaining and important movie. The cast all do an incredible job, notably Ben Mendelssohn and Samuel L Jackson who are absolute stand outs in this movie. Another very impressive aspect of the film was the anti-ageing effect that was masked over Samuel L Jackson, as he is 70 in real life. Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new superhero Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson. Watch her in the action sequences and you will be impressed with the choreography and cgi. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Jude Law is also quite good, and so are Ben Mendelssohn and Lashana Lynch. Visual effects are excellent. And since it's most importantly an action movie, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train car chase sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the movie. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humour, like any other MCU movie, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh. However in the third act of the movie, we get introduced to a character that is meant to be the protagonists long lost friend, and as we only get introduced in the final act it is hard to feel any emotion towards this character and see any true bond between the two "friends".

Final Verdict 7.1
